| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, On May 25, 2012, the President of the United | ||||||
| 3 | States of America proclaimed May 28, 2012 through November 11, | ||||||
| 4 | 2025 as the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the | ||||||
| 5 | Vietnam War; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Prairie State College and VFW Post 311 have | ||||||
| 7 | partnered with the United States of America Vietnam War 50th | ||||||
| 8 | Anniversary Commemoration, established by Congress, to "thank | ||||||
| 9 | and honor veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who | ||||||
| 10 | were held as prisoners of war (POW) or listed as missing in | ||||||
| 11 | action (MIA), for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the | ||||||
| 12 | United States and to thank and honor the families of these | ||||||
| 13 | veterans"; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, It is important to honor the men and women who | ||||||
| 15 | survived and the 58,260 men and women who gave their lives, 11 | ||||||
| 16 | of whom were from Crete, Olympia Fields, and Steger; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, The citizens of the Beecher, Crete, Olympia | ||||||
| 18 | Fields, and Steger, must never forget the pain and suffering | ||||||
| 19 | that lingers today for the men and women who fought with honor | ||||||
| 20 | and distinction in the name of freedom and democracy for all; | ||||||
| 21 | and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois renews its commitment to | ||||||
| 2 | those who answered the country's call to service in Vietnam and | ||||||
| 3 | their families; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Throughout this commemoration, we will strive to | ||||||
| 5 | live up to their example by showing our Vietnam veterans, their | ||||||
| 6 | families, and all of the men and women who have served our | ||||||
| 7 | country the fullest respect and support of a grateful State and | ||||||
| 8 | nation; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The freedoms and liberties we are blessed to enjoy | ||||||
| 10 | are a direct result of the courage, devotion, and sacrifice and | ||||||
| 11 | draw inspiration and pride from all that they are; therefore, | ||||||
| 12 | be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 15 | honor the Village of Beecher, the Village of Crete, the Village | ||||||
| 16 | of Olympia Fields, and the Village of Steger's Vietnam Veterans | ||||||
| 17 | on this commemorative event; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the Village of Beecher, the Village of Crete, the | ||||||
| 20 | Village of Olympia Fields, and the Village of Steger as a | ||||||
| 21 | symbol of our esteem and respect.
