| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives would like
| ||||||
| 3 | to recognize Greenville College on the occasion of its 125th | ||||||
| 4 | anniversary; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Greenville College was purchased in 1891 by the
| ||||||
| 6 | Free Methodists of Central Illinois and they selected their
| ||||||
| 7 | first president, Wilson T. Hogue, in 1892; it opened in 1892 | ||||||
| 8 | and has been educating
students ever since; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Wilson T. Hogue's sound grasp of Christian | ||||||
| 10 | culture,
clear definition of policy, and skillful | ||||||
| 11 | administration has left such a
mark that later, one observer | ||||||
| 12 | proclaimed, "Greenville College stands
as a living monument of | ||||||
| 13 | Wilson T. Hogue"; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Eleven presidents have since guided the education | ||||||
| 15 | of
students to obtain lives of character and service by | ||||||
| 16 | integrating faith with
learning; in time, the campus grew to | ||||||
| 17 | include 50 acres with spaces that
facilitate learning, | ||||||
| 18 | computing, performance and practice, art
exhibition, | ||||||
| 19 | athletics, science, and research; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Greenville College has provided education for
| ||||||
| 21 | students from almost every state as well as 30 different
| ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | countries and every inhabited continent; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Greenville College is home to 17 different
varsity | ||||||
| 3 | sports teams and three club teams with outstanding
| ||||||
| 4 | accomplishments over the past 20 years, including 45 conference
| ||||||
| 5 | championships, 11 national championships, four NCAA Division | ||||||
| 6 | III national
championship athletes, and two victory bowl | ||||||
| 7 | championships; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Greenville College is an outstanding
academic | ||||||
| 9 | institution; it was ranked as the top online school in Illinois | ||||||
| 10 | in
2016 and offers over 50 majors; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, On September 20, 2017, Greenville College will | ||||||
| 12 | celebrate its new identity as Greenville
University; | ||||||
| 13 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 15 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 16 | recognize Greenville College on all of its accomplishment over | ||||||
| 17 | the
last 125 years and we wish the school many more years of
| ||||||
| 18 | success; and be it further | ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That we wish Greenville College all the best as | ||||||
| 20 | it embarks on a new future as Greenville University; and be it | ||||||
| 21 | further

| 1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 2 | presented to Greenville College as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 3 | esteem.
