| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to commend Father David Medow on his 19 | ||||||
| 4 | years of service to St. Mary Immaculate Parish in Plainfield; | ||||||
| 5 | and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Father Medow has served St. Mary Immaculate Parish | ||||||
| 7 | since July of 1998, at which time the parish had 3,982 enrolled | ||||||
| 8 | households; currently, the Parish has 8,158 enrolled | ||||||
| 9 | households, having more than doubled since 1998; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Father Medow was born in the West Rogers Park | ||||||
| 11 | neighborhood of Chicago and graduated from Mather High School | ||||||
| 12 | in 1974; he received his Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown | ||||||
| 13 | University in 1978 and his Master of Arts from Mansfield | ||||||
| 14 | College, Oxford University in 1981; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Father Medow met Jane Rooney in England in 1979; | ||||||
| 16 | she would become his wife, and together, they are the proud | ||||||
| 17 | parents of Nikolai and Hannah; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Father Medow pursued his dream of becoming a | ||||||
| 19 | Lutheran minister, returning to Chicago and studying at the | ||||||
| 20 | Lutheran School of Theology; he was ordained as a Lutheran | ||||||
| 21 | minister in 1985, and followed this pathway for over 11 years; | ||||||

| 1 | and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, In the 1990s, Father Medow discovered a yearning | ||||||
| 3 | for the Roman Catholic Church; he was received into the Church | ||||||
| 4 | on November 1, 1996 by Bishop Joseph Imesch; he was granted | ||||||
| 5 | permission by the Holy See to begin a course of study for the | ||||||
| 6 | priesthood, and prepared for Catholic ordination from 1998 to | ||||||
| 7 | 2001; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, During the course of his studies, Father Medow | ||||||
| 9 | joined the staff of St. Mary Immaculate in July of 1998; he was | ||||||
| 10 | granted permission to become a priest and was ordained in June | ||||||
| 11 | of 2001; he became the Parochial Vicar of the St. Mary | ||||||
| 12 | Immaculate Parish School in June of 2001, and became the Pastor | ||||||
| 13 | of the Parish in June of 2005; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, As pastor of St. Mary Immaculate Parish, Father | ||||||
| 15 | Medow has carried out a life of Christian service; his | ||||||
| 16 | involvements are too numerous to list, but include the | ||||||
| 17 | inauguration of a series of parish pilgrimages to Europe and | ||||||
| 18 | the Holy Land, a mission trip to the African nation of Malawi, | ||||||
| 19 | a series of outreach efforts to new parish members, a series of | ||||||
| 20 | Harley Davidson Motorcycle Blessings, and the Relay for Life | ||||||
| 21 | Plainfield Blessings, begun in 2004; and | ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Father Medow has been active in the | ||||||

| 1 | Plainfield-area interfaith community, serving in the | ||||||
| 2 | Plainfield Ministerial Association from 2001 until the | ||||||
| 3 | present; he established the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry | ||||||
| 4 | and has, for the past six years, served as its president; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, After serving St. Mary Immaculate Parish for 12 | ||||||
| 6 | years as its pastor, Father David Medow will be moving on to a | ||||||
| 7 | new life of service in June of 2017; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 9 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | commend Father David Medow on his 19 years of service to St. | ||||||
| 11 | Mary Immaculate Parish in Plainfield, and we wish him well as | ||||||
| 12 | he moves on to a new life of service along with his wife; and be | ||||||
| 13 | it further

| 14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 15 | presented to Father Medow as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 16 | respect.
