| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Honor Flight Network is a nonprofit network of |
| 3 | | organizations created to honor American veterans by |
| 4 | | transporting them to Washington, D.C. to visit war memorials; |
| 5 | | and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Of the 16 million Americans who served in World |
| 7 | | War II, only 620,000 were alive in 2016; the National World War |
| 8 | | II Museum estimates that 372 World War II veterans pass away |
| 9 | | each day; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois has |
| 11 | | scheduled its first flight for April 25, 2017; the flight |
| 12 | | departs at approximately 6:00 a.m. and returns to Marion |
| 13 | | between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m.; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, All expenses for this one-day trip are covered by |
| 15 | | the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois, including the |
| 16 | | flight, ground transportation, meals, and beverages; the trip |
| 17 | | is provided free of charge to the veterans through fundraisers, |
| 18 | | donations, and sponsors; therefore, be it
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 20 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 21 | | declare April 25, 2017 as Veterans Honor Flight Day in the |
