HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Steven Hiatt on being 
4named the City of Darien 2017 Citizen of the Year; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Steven Hiatt moved to Darien in 1998 and 
6immediately  became active in the city's events and 
7organizations; in 2003, he
became a member of the Darien Lions 
8Club and served and chaired many committees, including Candy 
9Day, Pancake Breakfast, and Meeting and
Meals; he has served 
10the Lions Club as past President, Corresponding Secretary, 
11Financial
Secretary, and Treasurer; in 2012, he served as 
12President; this year he will Chair the Lions Club golf outing; 
13he instituted the American Flag Holiday Program; in 2013, he  
14was honored
as a Darien Lions Foundation Fellowship recipient; 
15and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Steven Hiatt has been a liaison with the Chamber 
17of Commerce for recruiting volunteers and working in various

18areas for DarienFest; he has volunteered for the last several 
19Darien Dash 5k races
sponsored by the Darien Chamber of 
20Commerce; he serves on the Board of Directors of the Darien 
21Historical Society and assists with the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

22Church Food Drive and Toys for Joy; and

1    WHEREAS, Steven Hiatt was featured on the cover of the 
2Neighbors of Darien publication, which highlighted what he 
3feels are his "social responsibilities" to the city and
his 
4inspiration for others to get involved; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Steven Hiatt and his wife, Kathie, have three 
6children, Richard (Diana), Kevin, and Dan, and a grandchild, 
7Ryder; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Many people talk about getting involved, but 
9Steven Hiatt lives it; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
11HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12congratulate Steven Hiatt on being named the City of Darien 
132017 Citizen of the Year, and we thank him for his commitment 
14to his community; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Steven Hiatt as an expression of our esteem and 
17respect.
