| 2 | | WHEREAS, President Donald Trump is taking steps to fulfill |
| 3 | | his campaign promise to build a wall along the border between |
| 4 | | the United States and Mexico; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, President Trump has suggested that a tariff of 20% |
| 6 | | should be placed on products imported from Mexico to pay for |
| 7 | | the border wall, which would essentially result in Americans |
| 8 | | paying for the wall; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Mexico is the second-largest export partner of |
| 10 | | Illinois and the third-largest import partner; therefore, be it
|
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 12 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 13 | | formally invite Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to address |
| 14 | | a joint session of the Illinois General Assembly to discuss the |
| 15 | | proposed border wall, the impact of a 20% tariff on goods |
| 16 | | imported from Mexico to pay for the wall, and the economic |
| 17 | | impact that such a wall and President Trump's policies will |
| 18 | | have on Illinois and Mexico; and be it further
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 | | delivered to Enrique Pena Nieto, President of Mexico.
